Did You Know..
Why does the moon appear much larger on the horizon than when in the middle of the sky? Well, this is actually an illusion created by our minds. When high in the sky, there is nothing to compare it against except the entire sky, thus it appears small. However, when near the horizon your mind compares it to objects on the horizon, so it appears large. A good way to prove this is to look at the moon through a cardboard tube. Compare the apparent size of the moon inside the tube when on the horizon versus several hours later when high in the sky.
