LETHBRIDGE ASTRONOMY SOCIETY FACILITIES
Our main building (the “Centre Building”) includes an equipment room with several portable refractors, reflectors and hybrid telescopes, a library with over 800 items, a kitchen and a presentation room that can seat up to thirty people. The Centre Building is surrounded by a deck with two permanent telescope piers. Two additional viewing platforms provide ample space for permanent and portable telescope installations.
A separate building on the site, The Rick Ponomar Astronomical Laboratory, has a 5.5 meter dome housing a 14" (35.5 cm) Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, as well as its own presentation room. This room is used for group viewing of live astronomical images captured by cameras on the Celestron scope and smaller imaging refractors. Many of our members are keenly interested in astrophotograhy, and post their excellent photos on this website and on our Facebook page.
